Searching for a MetaTrader VPS from Canada returns the same handful of names: the VPS built into the terminal, a few US and European hosts, and a lot of reseller pages. Most of them bill in US dollars, host in New York or London, and answer support tickets from another time zone. None of that is a problem in itself. It becomes one when you want a Canadian invoice, a machine you can actually log into, and someone to call at 3 a.m. Montréal time.
This page is the straight answer to what a Canadian trader gets with an FFxF VPS running MetaTrader 4 or 5, what it costs, and where the built-in MetaQuotes VPS is the better pick anyway.
1. What "MetaTrader VPS in Canada" means here
- A real Windows machine. Windows Server 2019, 2022 or 2025 with MetaTrader 4 or 5 already installed and started with Windows. You connect over Remote Desktop, you see the usual terminal, you can install anything else next to it: a second broker, a news feed, a spreadsheet, a copier.
- Hosted in Montréal. Our own hardware, in our own racks, on our own network (AS402554), with dedicated vCPU cores that are never oversold. The link to the New York and New Jersey data centres, where most North American broker servers live, is short and direct.
- Billed in Canadian dollars. Monthly, yearly, or by the hour, on a Canadian invoice with GST and QST. No currency conversion fee on your credit card statement every month.
- Human support, same time zone. The people who answer are the ones who run the machines, in Montréal, on Discord, Telegram or a ticket.
2. Canadian brokers and where their servers are
Trading Forex from Canada usually means one of a small set of brokers registered with CIRO: OANDA Canada, FOREX.com Canada, Interactive Brokers Canada, CMC Markets Canada, and a few others offering MetaTrader accounts. Being Canadian does not make their trade servers Canadian. Almost every MetaTrader broker, Canadian or not, keeps its MT4 and MT5 servers in the New York and New Jersey hubs for the Americas and in London for Europe.
That is why a VPS in Montréal makes sense: it is on the right side of the continent, a dozen milliseconds from the New York corridor, and it is not at the far end of a home connection. If your broker's server is in London, the picture changes; our article on measuring latency to your broker shows how to check in ten minutes, before paying for anything.
3. Compared with the MetaQuotes VPS
MetaTrader ships with its own hosting, sold from inside the terminal. It is worth knowing what it is and what it is not.
- What it does well. It migrates your charts, indicators and EAs in one click, it sits in the same data centre as many broker servers, and it costs a few US dollars a month. For one account with a couple of EAs and no need to ever look at a desktop, it is hard to beat.
- What it cannot do. There is no desktop, no Remote Desktop, no file system you can browse. You cannot run a second terminal, a trade copier, a custom script outside MQL, a browser, or anything that is not a MetaTrader program. You cannot watch the panel of a utility like Trade Indicator Assistant; you only see its log.
- Where a full VPS wins. Several accounts or brokers on one machine, tools outside MetaTrader, a screen you can actually look at, backups you control, and an invoice in your own currency.
4. Which plan, and what it costs
Windows templates start at the Starter plan: 2 dedicated vCPU, 4 GB of RAM, 40 GB SSD, for 16 CAD per month, 160 CAD per year, or 0.033 CAD per hour. That runs Windows plus one terminal with a handful of charts comfortably. Pro (4 vCPU, 8 GB, 30 CAD per month) is the step up for several terminals, heavy custom indicators, or a backtest you would rather not run on your laptop.
- Hourly billing is the way to try it: order Starter by the hour, log in, install your EA, measure the ping to your broker, and stop the machine. An afternoon costs a few cents.
- Included with every plan: an IPv4 of its own (not shared with other customers, which matters to prop firms), a routed IPv6 /64, 7 manual backups, the KVM console, a managed firewall, 1 TB of traffic.
- Not included: a broker, a strategy, or a guarantee that the EA makes money. The machine keeps it running; the rest is yours.
5. From order to first trade
- In the console, pick Starter or Pro, then in the Trading tab of the system picker choose Windows Server 2022 + MetaTrader 5 (or MetaTrader 4, or another Windows edition).
- A few minutes later, connect with Remote Desktop to the IPv4 shown in the console, user
Administrator, password from the console. MetaTrader is open. - File → Login to Trade Account: broker server, account number, master password. Add your EAs and indicators, allow algorithmic trading, save a template.
- Close the Remote Desktop window without signing out. The terminal stays up, and comes back on its own after a reboot.
- Restrict Remote Desktop to your IP in the console firewall, or reach the machine through a WireGuard tunnel. Take a backup.

6. Questions we get
- Is a Windows licence included? No. Windows Server comes in evaluation mode, valid 180 days; you activate it with your own key (retail, MAK or KMS) from Settings or with
DISM /Online /Set-Edition. MetaTrader runs the same either way. - Can I run MT4 and MT5 on the same VPS? Yes. Install the second terminal from your broker's site; on Starter, keep an eye on RAM with two terminals full of charts.
- Can I move an existing MetaTrader setup? Yes; moving MetaTrader from a PC to a VPS lists what to copy and what to reactivate.
- Does the VPS ever restart? Windows Update does, on the schedule you set. Our maintenance is announced in advance on the status page, and the terminal restarts by itself afterwards.
- Prop firm accounts? One dedicated IPv4 per VPS, no shared addresses; see prop firm challenges and VPS for the rules that matter.
